Cheapest Places to Travel to in October

When planning your fall trip, finding some of the cheapest places to visit in October has never been easier. I travel once a month, so I definitely make sure to stay on a budget and I found some amazing budget friendly options to take in the full fall season and enjoy the beauty while relaxing.

Ashville, North Carolina

Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ashville offers beautiful fall scenery, and is a thriving vibrant city known for historic architecture, vibrant arts scenes and museums. When visiting Ashville look at some popular attractions, such as Biltmore Estate, the North Carolina Arboretum, and the River Arts District. For dining options, you can take in the North Carolina Bar-B-Que. Of course, I am from Memphis and to me nothing beats Memphis Bar-B-Que. Give me your thoughts on

Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia gives a romantic vibe as it is known for its antebellum architecture and parks as well as horse drawn carriages. Savannah has a charming historic district filled with cobblestone squares, shopping and just a fun place to take a walk and spend a date night. You can find Southern cuisine here such as fried chicken, authentic shrimp and grits (my absolute favorite). It's easy to stay on a budget in Savannah as the hotel stays and dining options are all affordable. When visiting check out Forsyth Park, River Street, and the Savannah Historic District.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston also is defined by its beauty of cobblestone streets and horse drawn carriages with an antebellum theme and architecture. This town gives an elegant French Quarter feel with its history, culture and a blend of coastal beauty. I was surprised at how affordable it is to stay here in a hotel or Airbnb. Some popular dishes here in Charlestown include beer battered fish and chips, lobster and some amazing classic pubs. When visiting Charlestown be sure to check out Rainbow Row, Fort Sumter National Monument, and Folly Beach.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans nicknamed the "Big Easy" is known for its round-the-clock nightlife, vibrant music scene and its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures. While October is a popular time to visit New Orleans you can actually still find some affordable places to stay here and enjoy all of the fun and activities this city has to offer. Be sure to indulge in some gumbo, crawfish and my husband's favorite, red beans and rice. While staying here you will want to definitely see the French Quarter, Bourbon Street and Jackson Square.

Smokey Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina

The Great Smokey Mountains in October is a great place to be to see some of the most beautiful fall foliage. Of course, from Tennessee I might be a little bias on this one but trust me you won't be disappointed. There is so much to do here from visiting the national park and taking in all of the beauty, hiking trails, and even camping opportunities as well. Camping used to be one of our budget-friendly go to options on a regular basis. You will find some delicious old fashioned buttermilk biscuits and pancakes (there are many Pancake Pantry restaurants in this area) apple fritters, and of course Barbecue.

When visiting the Smokey Mountains check out Cades Cove, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad.

Austin, Texas

Austin is the state capital of Texas and offers a vibrant blend of music from blues, country and rock. If you are going in early October or even late September, be sure to check out the bat cruise located in downtown Austin. Here you will get a chance to see thousands of bats under a bridge and fly away as the evening begins. (Another spoiler alert: I am doing this! So, be sure to come back if you are interested and hearing more on this). There is so much delicious food you can take in here in Austin but must try the Barbecue here as they have some pretty well-known barbecue restaurants here.

Don't forget to see Barton Springs, Sixth Street and of course the Texas State Capitol building (the second largest of capitol buildings).

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville, the capital of Tennessee, is home to some legendary country music venues including the Grand Ole Opry House, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and historic Ryman Auditorium. My personal favorite for some shopping and fun around the holidays is visiting the Opry Mills Mall. Fun fact this used to be Opryland theme park back in the 90s. Here at the mall, you can find so many places to dine and shop along with some fun holiday activities as well.

You can find some affordable places to stay here in October, but prices will start to go up closer to the Christmas holidays. A little on the more expensive side is the is the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. If this is out of your budget range, then I highly recommend taking an afternoon and visiting the resort and its fun attractions offered here.

Remember to book your accommodations and flights in advance to get the best deals. Additionally, consider staying in outside the city limits in some areas, or booking an Airbnb, or even camping to further reduce your costs.
